Recently, Kelloggsville High School has made the policy that students are no longer allowed to carry their cell phones during the school day.

With recent events that have been happening; such as shootings, stabbings and bullying, going to school is already an uneasy feeling for students and parents. I understand that students misuse the privilege, but there are other ways to discipline ie- detention, write ups, etc. Keeping my phone on me not only makes me feel safe, but my parents as well. We know that if there were an emergency we would be able to reach out to each other and other family members on our personal phone line.  

In conclusion, Cellphones are not just about social media, they are used as tools to alert others about emergencies and our safety, such as the unfortunate events that have taken place. The reason why we want to carry our cellphones on us is because, god forbid, if an unsafe situation were to occur in my school, I would want to be able to contact my loved ones.
