Hello All,

Thank you for your continued support and comments - we are learning all the time.  We have been label trawling on our recent shops and have learnt a few things that we thought you may want to share:

  • Toiletries: there are palm oil free options by some brands, such as Lush and Bloomtown
  • Sweet treats: Divine and Fairpalm have some good palm oil free options
  • Misc: Jordans and Whole Earth only use IP/Segregated palm oil
  • This site offers a good overview on spotting palm oil in products: https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/palm-oil-free-list
  • There are apps that will also allow you to scan a product to see whether it contains palm oil

Also, there are different types of RSPO logo, so for the Identity Preserved (IP) where the oil is clean from plantation through to product shelf and Segregated ie traced from mill to product the brand can show a RSPO Certified logo (rather than Mixed or Credits).  More info here.  This may help you if you wish to just not buy the Mass Balance or Greenpalm credit containing products.

We are chasing up Kellogg's to set a date for next month to review progress and have drawn their attention to this concerning article that alleges brands are not buying green palm oil and it is then being mixed in with the dirty palm oil:

Anyway,we hope you found this update useful and we always love to hear from you guys - thanks for letting us know about FairPalm.

Another positive thing we can all do is sign up to this scheme, which then contributes towards the Orangutan Foundation whenever you shop:

Keep sharing and building up the pressure to get brands to act more responsibly.

Thanks,

Asha, Jia & Harvinder
