The Issue
Having been raised and lived in Port Moody, BC, there is no place more dear than Bert Flinn Park. It is greater than trails and green space; it is a sanctuary for rest, building community, and linking with the serenity of nature. From the youngest learners who go on nature walks there with enthusiasm to neighborhood pet owners who gain peaceful enjoyment from observing the lively life that inhabits its boundaries, Bert Flinn Park has been a component of our community existence for generations.

The popular park is in danger of being turned into a roadway. Not only would this ruin the natural beauty and wildlife of the park, but also annihilate a valued recreation and educational space for our community. Not just a loss of open green space, but a loss of our area's natural heritage and a safe space in which our residents, young and old, find comfort and inspiration.

Bert Flinn Park is also a habitat for many different wildlife and plants, which makes it a sanctuary for animals, and they would be pushed out by more car noise and pollution. This is, in itself, a negative impact on nature's balance and takes away from the environment that is so well-liked by so many in Port Moody.

Studies firmly establish that green spaces in the urban environment are vital to mental health, providing necessary areas for outdoor recreation and stress reduction. The removal of this type of space is unsustainable urban planning practice and the pursuit of a better quality of life for our citizens.

Let us preserve Bert Flinn Park. Instead of asphalt-ing this paradise of nature into traffic and pavement, we call on the city planners and municipal government to look for other options that preserve both our transportation needs and the integrity of our cherished park. The people's voices need to be included in forging a future where green spaces are on an equal plane of priority as infrastructure development.

Your voice matters. Petition to save Bert Flinn Park from devastating road proposals and let future generations experience its tranquility and beauty in the same way we can today.
