This is a story that has left a permanent scar on my life. Zachary Bunney brutally murdered my father, stabbing him 30 times. The judicial system did what it could and sentenced him to a mere 12 years in prison. Now, not even half of that sentence served, Bunney is being considered for early release.

This situation is not just a personal tragedy but a grave injustice to my father's memory. My father was an innocent man who deserved to live a full life, but it was snatched away by Bunney in the most violent manner imaginable. Letting him walk free before completing his sentence feels like I'm losing my father all over again.

We must remember that the purpose of a learned society's justice system is not only to punish but also to deter similar heinous crimes. Allowing Bunney to be released early undermines the severity of his crime and sends a perverse message that such acts can be taken lightly.

Statistics show that early releases can lead to further crime, especially if the offender has a violent past. Bunney has shown a capacity for extreme violence; releasing him is a risk to public safety. The possibility of him harming another family is a risk we cannot afford to take.

I urge the parole board to reconsider this decision and mandate that Zachary Bunney serve his full 12-year sentence. Maintaining his imprisonment for the duration originally determined isn't just a personal plea; it's an appeal for justice and safety in our community.
