Jackson Williams was back in court yesterday for a plea hearing. His sentencing has been adjourned until Nov 18th. The next day, I have been invited to Victorian Parliament by Derryn Hinch's Justice Party to deliver my petition.

If you have read the news articles and hear the angle his lawyers are going down to defend him then I am sure you all joined me in the anger I felt last night. His lawyers made more references to how this has affected his life, before he addressed the impact he had on the victim. A clinical psychologist said his apology was made “in a superficial manner”.
This petition is about so much more than just this case. Whilst it has been the motivation behind starting this petition, there is a much bigger picture that needs to be addressed: women have the right to not only feel safe but be safe!
Our laws need to change so it is easier to charge these predators with the actual crime they committed. It’s a scary world if there is actual CCTV evidence of the beginnings of an alleged sexual assault taking place and they get off because of one word in the law... intent! It’s almost impossible to prove in a court of law. We need laws that protect women!
If one by one these predators are removed from our streets then we as women are a step closer to being able to go about our business day or night without the fear that we could end up being at the wrong place at the wrong time!
Next week when l go to Parliament, I hope that with nearly 60,000 signatures (THANKYOU!) we have made enough noise about this issue and that they make the changes so desperately needed so that the next time we are faced with such a case, we hear the sentencing is Jail time.
Because we matter, not them!
