Keep Vineyard within Woodcreek High School boundary
The Issue
Our community, Vineyard, has long established a strong bond with Woodcreek High School. For many of us, including my family, the opportunity to have our children attend Woodcreek was a significant factor in choosing this neighborhood as our home. The nurturing environment, quality education, and enduring friendships forged at Woodcreek are irreplaceable, and they represent not just a school but the heart of our community.
The recent proposal to redraw the school boundaries threatens to break our community apart by dividing students who currently attend Silverado Middle School amongst three different high schools. This decision threatens to sever critical connections formed during important formative years, disrupting our children's educational and social continuity. The prevailing belief in our community is that these friendships and continuity are critical to the development of confident, well-rounded young adults.
Breaking these bonds could have far-reaching negative effects not only on our students but also on our community as a whole. Our students deserve stability in their educational journey to ensure their success and happiness. Redrawing the boundaries disregards the existing sense of unity and history that Vineyard shares with Woodcreek High School.
In addition to these concerns, sending our neighborhood to Oakmont would create transportation issues as it would add an additional 3 mile commute through the busy intersection at Cirby and Foothills. Students would be unable to walk or bike to school thus creating commute concerns.
We urge the decision-makers of our educational district to consider the emotional and social impacts of these changes. We propose maintaining the current boundaries for Woodcreek High School to protect the valued ties our children have developed, which are crucial for their growth and well-being.
