Keep Vincent Warren's Technology Program at Brevard High School

Keep Vincent Warren's Technology Program at Brevard High School
The Issue
Vincent Warren, known to his students as Mr. V, faces an unexpected and deeply troubling decision that threatens the futures of countless students at Brevard High School. For 8 years at BHS (15 in public education), Mr. V has built and led one of the most innovative and forward-thinking technology programs. Through courses in Technology, Engineering, and Design (TED), Engineering Design, Animation, and Coding, he has done far more than teach technical skills — he has opened doors for his students. He has ignited passions. He has equipped students across Transylvania County Schools with the tools, confidence, and experience to pursue careers in an increasingly tech-driven world.
Recently, students have discovered that his program will no longer be offered at the high school following this spring semester. Students, assuming his program is being eliminated, are shocked and disappointed. Cutting his program would deprive students of the unique opportunities for growth, skill-building, and personal development that his program provides– an environment for high school students entering adulthood and preparing for their careers. Mr. V is currently developing a program in 3D animation using state-of-the-art software from Pixar, a program he is proud of and that students look forward to. However, in light of recent findings, this may never come to fruition at BHS. Over 8 years, Mr. V continues to refine and evaluate his programs to ensure they consistently meet the needs of EVERY student who enters his classroom.
The importance of Mr. V's program cannot be emphasized enough. Recently, Transylvania County Schools (TCS) received recognition as one of the top schools in NC for Career Technical Education Credential Attainment. Moreover, a press release from February 11, 2026, states that "Transylvania County Schools continues to expand high-quality CTE programming that connects classroom learning to real-world skills and local workforce needs. Through strong partnerships with business and industry, TCS students graduate prepared to pursue college, technical training, or immediate employment opportunities. "The cutting of Mr. V's technology program, then, would be oxymoronic.
Moreover, Mr. V's influence goes beyond academics. Assuredly, if Vincent Warren creates and maintains a program, it will serve a great purpose and value to the students who have the privilege of taking it. As a former student of Mr. V, I can personally attest to the profound impact of his classes. I would not be where I am today—at Berea College, soon to graduate—without the drive, confidence, and perseverance cultivated in his class. I can also attest to the abundance of students, current and former, who have had similar experiences with Mr. V and his program.
However, this decision is not official. We cannot let such a valuable program be erased from BHS. It is imperative for those in charge to reconsider this preliminary decision and preserve Mr. V's exceptional program at Brevard High School. Furthermore, we hope and believe that the Transylvania County School Board will support our (students, community, and parents) interests in this matter. Doing so would not only benefit current and future students but also help the community retain its reputation for educational excellence, particularly in CTE.
We urge the Transylvania County Schools to recognize the importance of Mr. V's contributions and the invaluable experiences his program offers. Please sign this petition to show your support for keeping Vincent Warren's technology program at Brevard High School, ensuring that future and current students have the opportunity to benefit from this unparalleled educational resource.
