The issue

Did you know the Central Coast Council has decided to relocate the Ulverstone dog park?   😱

Council is currently considering moving it to a former landfill site at the end of River Road. 🤢

This petition asks Council to reconsider the decision to move the park and instead recognise the current dog park for what it truly is — one of Ulverstone’s unique community assets and a genuine drawcard for locals and visitors alike.

The current location offers so much more than just an off-lead area for dogs. It is:

🐶  Centrally located along the Coastal Pathway
🐶  Safe, and heavily used by the community
🐶  Set on a stunning riverside site with ocean views — arguably the most beautiful dog park in Tasmania
🐶  A destination in itself, encouraging locals and tourists to spend time in Ulverstone and support nearby businesses
🐶  Home to major Kennel Club Championship Shows each year, attracting interstate competitors, overseas judges, and visitors to the region

The park showcases Ulverstone to a national and international audience and brings valuable economic activity to the area. Tasmanians from out of the council area come to Ulverstone specifically to being their dog to this park.

Keeping it at this prime waterfront location presents the Central Coast at its absolute best.

Rather than relocating the park, Council should embrace the opportunity to further promote Ulverstone and the Central Coast as a leading dog-friendly destination, noting that:

  • 48% of Tasmanian households have a dog[1]
  • 20% of Australians planned to take pets on holiday in 2026, up on 15% the year before[2]
  • New Spirit of Tasmania ships will have pet-friendly cabins

  • Virgin Australia is expanding their pet in-cabin flights to Launceston

Please sign this petition to help us keep Ulverstone's cherished dog park in its rightful place. Your support can make a difference in preserving this vital community asset.
