The Issue

Tyson Foods plans to close its beef processing plant in Lexington, Nebraska—a move that will wipe out 3,200 jobs in a town of just 11,000 people and shake the entire U.S. beef supply chain.

This isn’t just a local issue. The plant processes 5,000 cattle per day, supports thousands of American ranchers, and has anchored the economic revival of Lexington for decades. Its closure will devastate immigrant families, small businesses, schools, housing, and essential community services across Dawson County.

Tyson says the closure is about efficiency. But what about loyalty? What about the workers and ranchers who built their lives and livelihoods around this facility?

We are calling on:

Tyson Foods CEO Donnie King
Tyson Executive Leadership and Board of Directors
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen
To:

  • Keep the Lexington beef plant open and fully operational.
  • Explore reinvestment in modernization or restructuring instead of full closure.
  • Meet directly with workers, local leaders, and ranchers to negotiate a path forward.
  • Pause all closure plans until all local options and public-private partnerships are exhausted.

Tyson has received tax incentives, labor, and loyalty from this community for decades. Now it’s time to give something back.

Sign this petition to demand Tyson Foods reverse its decision and keep its Nebraska plant open—for the workers, the ranchers, and the future of American agriculture.
