Keep tourism away from green sea turtles

Keep tourism away from green sea turtles
The Issue
The green sea turtle also know as Honu in the Hawaiian language are at risk of getting harmed by tourist. The green sea turtle here bask on the beaches of Hawaii which make them vulnerable to human harm. Although there are many volunteer organizations here in Hawaii that help protect the turtle from tourism harm casualties still happen. Casualties such as sitting on the turtles or flash photography can happen. My proposed solution to this is to get the state of Hawaii to pay organizations instead of relying on volunteers to protect the turtles. Although the green sea turtle may not seem like the play a part in the ecosystem, they actually do. They help maintain seagrass beds. The seagrass beds are eaten or "mowed down" by the green sea turtles. Without the turtles the seagrass could overpopulate or even die out due to the sea turtles not spreading the grass around. They also help give nutrients to sand beds when they lay their eggs. The egg shells and any baby didn't hatch will be absorbed by the sand providing nutrients to anything growing in sand.
