The Issue

Protect our fuzzy felines by making declawing illegal in Chicago

Cats are wonderful.  I have experienced the charm of cats many times in the past year. Whenever I went home sad, or if something bad happened my cat is always there. They don't hold grudges, they never tease you, or demean you, they just love you for the sake of loving you. But some cats'trust in humans is shattered forever just because their owners want pristine furniture.                                                                        What I'm talking about is declawing.  Declawing was first defined as a practical solution to scratching, but it is actually an inhuman procedure that affects around hundreds of thousands of cats in the US each year.   When a cat is declawed, not just their claw, but part of their toe is gouged out. (It would be like removing your finger at the last knuckle) Cats walk on their toes, so by removing part of their toe, it can cause early arthritis, and joint stiffness for the rest of their life. They are also unable to climb, bite more, and may avoid using the litter box once they are  declawed. Not only that, but the surgery is excruciating and traumatic. also, there are many things we can do instead, like trimming our cats' nails every two weeks, getting a scratching post, or putting soft temporary nail caps on their claws.   I think a bill should be made to make this cruel form of abuse illegal in Chicago.  Please help me support this cause, and help our furry friends live a better life.
