We must defeat the American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2017. It will damage the United States by unilaterally pulling out of the United Nations and every U.N. agreement and treaty we have signed in the past 72 years.

The United Nations was created in 1945, shortly after World War II. Its purpose was to keep the world from falling into a Third World War following the collapse of Fascism in Europe and Japan. Its greater goal has been facilitation of dialogue between all nations with the goal of finding amicable and peaceful solutions to diplomatic problems. And to enforce these solutions by calling upon member nations to protect each other in times of crisis.

While imperfect, the U.N. has so far succeeded in its primary mission, thanks to the leadership and support of its most important founding member -- the United States.

Withdrawing from the U.N. will not make America any safer or more sovereign. It will destroy our credibility as a force for democracy in the world, while emboldening our Authoritarian rivals, Russia and China, to remake the world order in their undemocratic image.
