Keep the student bus pass program in Nova Scotia free

The Issue

The government of Nova Scotia is proposing to remove free bus passes for middle, and high school students. We think this is a bad idea because it stops students from getting around the city quickly, and safely. So many students use these passes every day, and removing them would cause more people, including students and parents, to drive. This would cause an increase in traffic, making the commute times longer for everyone.

As students in Nova Scotia, the student bus pass program is almost a necessity. We use the bus pass almost every day to get to school, stores, and even just to get around the city. It has become an essential part of our lives, allowing me to freely navigate the city while saving money for other, more important things. We are not alone in this. I know many other students who rely on this program just as much as I do.

Having a free bus pass allows us students to access school and other areas without the cost that bus costs can impose. For many, the added cost of buying a student bus pass could be the What limits their ability to attend School or participate in extracurricular activities. The removal of this program being free would drastically affect students negatively.

Transportation shouldn't be an obstacle to education. By keeping the bus pass free for students, we keep students able to get to school freely, and effortlessly. Allowing students to use public transit decreases car-induced pollution, and traffic in the road.

We think the Nova Scotia government should prioritize students needs by continuing to provide free bus passes. Please sign this petition to stop the province from making this drastic mistake.
