St Mary’s right of way action group

The Issue

Keep the right of way open from the Croft through St Mary’s chapel to Raploch Road  in Larkhall.

The chapel are trying to close the pedestrian right of way that links Raploch Road and the Croft by locking the pedestrian gate they have put up when renovating the car park, this is a loss to the community as a whole as rights of way are important and necessary for some less abled people as well as children to keep them away from main roads.

Most people from Larkhall will remember always being able to cross the path down the side of the old chapel wall between the 2 roads without any obstacles or locked gates to go down to Tom thumbs park and down the Avon.

The path has existed over the private land for over 100 years and is a good link and shortcut for pedestrians, for it to exist as a right of way it needs to have been continuously used for 20 years which it has exceeded and have been used as a right and not consent which it has.

The chapel are contesting the right of way saying that a right of way can’t exists in a fenced compound as they have now fenced in the right of way, but after seeking proper advice that only applies to industrial areas and not car parks.
We only want to be able to walk from the Croft to Raploch Road unhindered as we have done for decades.

Please help keep this open by signing this petition and making this work for everyone, don’t loss another access route to a private landowner.
