Keep the Richmond Local: Say No to Corporate Interests

Keep the Richmond Local: Say No to Corporate Interests

The Issue

A local Richmond district restaurant is being displaced by a corporate chain. A national Japanese BBQ & hot pot franchise is seeking to replace K-Elements at 2140 Clement St, San Francisco. This is our chance to decide whether we want a Richmond District shaped by local businesses or corporate chains.

What’s Happening
K-Elements began lease renewal negotiations in September 2024. Despite a slowdown in the hospitality industry and rising costs across the board, the building landlord proposed a 17% rent increase, pushing rent, insurance, and taxes to nearly $17,000 per month.

K-Elements offered a reasonable counterproposal based on market conditions. After nearly a year of discussion, communication from the landlord suddenly stopped. It later became clear that a national franchise had applied for the space, raising concerns about further rent hikes that small businesses in the area cannot absorb.

A public pre-application meeting is scheduled for:
Friday, November 28 at 6PM
📍 In person: 6050 Geary Blvd
💻 Online: https://calendar.app.google/qfBdPLrU1cWMrN8S6

This meeting is our chance to show support for local businesses.
