Keep The New Dog Park Project Going!

Keep The New Dog Park Project Going!
The Issue
For my family, our two dogs, and the countless visitors who frequently enjoy Central Bark, the dog park has been a cornerstone of our community. This place holds special memories and values for each one of us. However, at a quarter of a century old, Central Bark is falling apart and is overdue for significant upgrades. Discussions regarding a much-needed replacement have been on-going since at least 2017. Central Bark must close regardless, as remodeling would require closure for many months, and we've already been informed that isn't an option. Despite facing unexpected opposition from a small but vocal group, addressing their concerns with research and studies, the City Council has shown unanimous support for a new, rejuvenated space via the Oak Creek Community Project.
Yet, the progress of this new project is now in jeopardy. The City of Irvine's website for the project went missing. It is now restored after we started asking where it went (https://www.cityofirvine.org/parks-facilities/oak-creek-park-project). City officials have stated that while we had been told the project was won, it is now paused because of the efforts of the same small group that misrepresents itself by implying they speak for all of Orangetree because they are HOA board members. City Councilmember Mike Carroll came to our community center but was only allowed to hear the small groups negative opinion. As a resident of Orangetree, no one else was invited to attend this meeting. It's shocking to think that our voices may not be heard, and we could lose this essential piece of our community, despite our collective fight for this cause, and having been told we had a unanimous decision in our favor to proceed with this project.
Our city, as a democratic society, has voted in favor of the Oak Creek Project, multiple times. Genuine community engagement and democratic decision-making are principal aspects of our civic life, and they ought to be respected and protected. As a community and also as the Irvine Dog Parks Association, we have attended and supported the process.
Hence, this petition calls on all appropriate authorities and parties to allow the Oak Creek Community Project to proceed as planned and approved. Our community depends on the realization of the project, not only for the sake of our dogs but for the upkeep of the camaraderie and unity this park fosters.
This is our plea, our stand for democracy and community unity. AGAIN it is time to come together and take collective action. By signing this petition we state that we want the Oak Creek Community Project to move forward uninterrupted. We ask that the Irvine City Councilmembers authorize the project to continue unabated.
