The Issue

It was recently announced that the Majors Golf Club in Palm Bay, Florida is going before the Zoning Board on April 6th, 2022 and City Council on May 4th, 2022 to petition for a change in the zoning of the Majors Golf Club from Golf/recreational to residential. The owners of the golf course would like to sell to a developer (unnamed at this time) to destroy the golf course and construct a 360 home planned development.

The Majors Golf Club is a fantastic asset to Palm Bay and surrounding communities. It features an Arnold Palmer signature designed golf course, a beautiful clubhouse with restaurant/bar facilities as well as a full pro shop. The club also features a first class practice area.

The current owners have put over $1MM in the past two years into the golf course and unfortunately the pandemic has not been kind to them. Due to economic conditions, they are looking to sell.

I would like to see Palm Bay and possible Melbourne work together to purchase the golf course and turn it into a municipal facility similar to the other 3 courses in the City of Melbourne. All of those courses due very well year round and our very well maintained by city staff. Why destroy a perfectly good asset to the community with more houses and less green space?

The golf course could also look at becoming an First Tee facility to help serve the youth community in our city that may not have the ability to play golf. Although kids play for free today, there is no designated programs for kids to learn the game of golf! It also helps to bring families together to play golf as well.

The golf course needs to better market itself to leagues and tournaments in the area. Perhaps also engaged the schools and colleges in the area to make the Majors their home course and if they don’t have a golf program, work with them to get a program started!

Thank you for reading and please help us save our golf course!!!!!
