📢 Tell Albany: Lakes Are NOT Wetlands – Pass S.3656 / A.4692!

To: New York State Legislature & Governor Hochul

Recent changes to New York’s wetlands regulations mistakenly classify lakes as wetlands, imposing a broad, one-size-fits-all approach that overlooks their distinct characteristics. This misclassification places unnecessary regulatory burdens on lake communities, businesses, and homeowners. While officials have promised General Permits to bypass or streamline ill-fitting regulations, these measures are an insufficient solution to the unintended negative consequences of this policy.

That’s why we support NY Bill S.3656 / A.4692, which ensures lakes are fairly and accurately regulated—separately from wetlands—so we can:

✅ Protect clean water with science-based policies designed for lakes
✅ Ensure fair, effective conservation without excessive and redundant bureaucracy
✅ Support lakefront communities, homeowners & local businesses that depend on responsible lake management
✅ Keep lakes healthy for recreation, tourism, and community enjoyment

Lakes are not wetlands—they need policies that reflect their unique ecosystems and uses. We call on Albany lawmakers to pass S.3656 / A.4692 to exempt lakes from wetlands regulations and protect our lakes with the right regulations!
