Since April of 2021 inside the quaint, beautiful neighborhood of Georgetown sits a pair of massive Transformers sculptures. Thursday, the Old Georgetown Board voted to require Dr. Newton Howard to remove these sculptures from in front of his home due to "incompatibility with the neighborhood's historic aesthetics." These sculptures are lively pieces of public art that do not pose any danger.
Neighbors, Georgetown University students and visitors remain in awe at the pieces. They bring a tangible vibrancy and happiness to those who come across them. We encourage Alan Brangman, Ashley Wilson and the last member of the three-person board to reconsider this act of censorship and allow Dr. Newton to display his sculptures just as other neighbors are allowed to display flags, plants and other accessories of their choice.
