Keep the community safe: end the Witch Walk

Keep the community safe: end the Witch Walk
The Issue
For many years, Franklin has been a sanctuary of tradition and community harmony. However, the recent trajectory of the "Witch Walk" has created a deep and growing divide in our city. What is marketed as "entertainment" has, in practice, fostered an environment of hostility that many residents can no longer ignore.
Why We Are Seeking Change
We believe that public events should promote unity, not exclusion or fear. We are calling for an end to the Witch Walk based on the following critical concerns:
• Public Safety & Security: The atmosphere surrounding this event has escalated to the point where local institutions—including our churches—have been forced to hire outside security to protect their congregants from threats. No citizen should feel unsafe or intimidated while fulfilling their religious obligations in our town.
• Hostility Toward Faith: Rather than a neutral celebration, this event has increasingly become a platform for the mockery of Christian beliefs. Residents who have peacefully expressed their faith have been met with direct threats and "malevolent curses," creating a culture of division rather than the "welcoming environment" our Retail Association claims to support.
• Economic Exclusion: Many local families and consumers can no longer in good conscience support businesses that sponsor an event opposing their core values. This "pay-to-play" atmosphere is hurting our local economy by alienating a significant demographic of loyal, local shoppers.
Our Call to Action
Franklin deserves better than an event that breeds fear and excludes its own citizens. We are asking the Franklin City Council and the Retail Association to prioritize community harmony over controversy. It is time to replace the Witch Walk with an event that honors our heritage, respects our residents, and ensures that downtown remains a safe, inclusive space for every family.
