The Issue

For years, I have dedicated my life to working directly with people dealing with addiction, mental health challenges, and homelessness. It has been more than just a job—it’s a mission rooted deep in my heart. Every day, I witness the struggles of those trying to regain control of their lives, and I have seen firsthand what a difference compassion, trust, and stability can make. In the past three months alone, I have personally helped close to 18 individuals transition into detox programs and follow them through the journey to recovery. This is the change we can create when we work together.

However, the city’s decision to dismantle the homeless encampment before we establish a viable plan for these individuals threatens to undermine this progress. These encampments aren’t just temporary shelters; they are places of refuge and community for many who have nowhere else to go. Simply closing them without offering an alternative leaves our city's most vulnerable population at risk.

Homelessness is not a problem that can be fixed overnight. It requires a comprehensive plan that involves collaboration between local authorities, community organizations, and the individuals affected. By closing this encampment prematurely, we risk losing contact with those who are living there, breaking the trust and relationships that have been diligently built over time.

We need to keep this encampment open until a practical and humane solution is implemented. This means ensuring there is adequate housing, support services, and rehabilitation opportunities available. Only then can we responsibly transition those who rely on the encampment into a more stable environment.

Nobody should be forced back into the streets due to a lack of planning and resources. We owe it to our friends, family, and fellow human beings to ensure that we are doing everything possible to support them in their journey towards a stable life.

Please join me in urging the city to keep the homeless encampment open until a proper plan is in place. Your signature can help bring about a compassionate solution that upholds the dignity and humanity of those most in need.
