It has come to the attention of many concerned Australians that there are plans to light up Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge in the colours of Palestine.

Now, we fully respect the right to protest and to voice opinions in a free society that is what makes Australia strong. But there is a very clear line between individual protest and using our national landmarks as political billboards. Lighting up the Story Bridge is not simply “expression,” it’s a statement of authority and alignment. It gives the impression of official endorsement, as though the people of Brisbane and Australia as a whole are united behind one political agenda. That is simply not the case.

The Story Bridge is more than steel and lights it’s a Queensland icon, a national treasure, and a symbol of unity. It should never be turned into a platform for foreign political causes that divide our community. To allow this would set a dangerous precedent today it’s Palestine, tomorrow it could be another global conflict imposed onto our public spaces.

Australians deserve neutrality from their public landmarks. These spaces should bring people together, not drive wedges between us. For this reason, we are putting forward a petition to prevent the Story Bridge from being lit up in the colours of Palestine or any other political flag or movement.

We call on our fellow Australians to stand with us in protecting the integrity of our landmarks, ensuring they remain symbols of unity, not instruments of division.
