We are calling on Canada Post to preserve postal service in Brackendale and keep our local post office open.

For generations, the Brackendale Post Office has been more than a place to pick up mail. It is part of the fabric of our community—a familiar gathering place, an essential local service and a connection point for residents of Brackendale, Paradise Valley and surrounding areas.

Brackendale's postal history dates back 120 years. The community's first post office opened on August 1, 1906, and postal service has been woven into Brackendale's history ever since.

Losing this service now, just as our community is preparing for significant growth, makes little sense.

The approved Cheekeye River Development will add 1,215 homes to Brackendale, including rental housing, commercial spaces and community facilities. That means potentially thousands of new residents will call this part of Squamish home in the coming years.

As Brackendale grows, its local services should grow with it—not disappear.

Closing the Brackendale Post Office would also push residents south to Squamish's other post offices, which already serve a rapidly growing population. For residents farther north, including those in Paradise Valley, that means travelling even greater distances simply to access basic postal services.

A neighbourhood post office is especially important for seniors, residents with limited transportation, small businesses and anyone who regularly needs parcel pickup, registered mail or other in-person postal services.

Brackendale is not simply another neighbourhood that can easily absorb the loss of a local service. It has a distinct identity and a long history. For more than a century, postal service has been part of that story.

Canada Post itself has recognized the importance of maintaining postal access in rural communities. Brackendale has previously been included among the postal outlets protected under Canada's rural post office moratorium. As Canada Post modernizes its network, communities like ours should not lose the local services that make them strong, connected and livable.

We ask Canada Post to recognize both Brackendale's future and its past.

A community preparing to welcome more than a thousand new households needs local infrastructure. A community with 120 years of postal history deserves to preserve it.

Keep the Brackendale Post Office open and keep postal service where it belongs: in the heart of our community.
