Since Berlin 1936 Olympic Games, the archaeological site of Olympia has hosted the Ceremony of the Lighting of the Olympic Flame: it is perhaps the most cherished and most powerful of the symbols of the Olympic Movement, which, apart from its other symbolisms, creates and holds the link with antiquity. 

Following upon the tremendous impact and success of the Olympic Flame as a symbol there are now many flames being lit for different sporting events, each copying directly or indirectly ― and in most instances unsuccessfully ― the Olympic ceremonials and customs related to the flame.

In recent years, after a series of not well-thought decisions by the responsible authorities, Olympic - like flames have been kindled and used for major Olympic events, such as the Youth Olympic Games, the European Games, and the Olympic Youth Festivals. 

These flames were lit in cities like Athens, Rome, and even in Azerbaijan, creating confusion among the wide public about the real origin of the Olympic Flame. 

The veritable wildfire of flames also includes the Asian and Panamerican Games' Flame, the Paralympic Flame, the Special Olympics’ Flame, the Marathon Flame the Universiade's Flame, and so on.

Undoubtedly, the most confusing of these flames burning under the absolute authority of IOC are :
1. the so-called ‟Olympic Fire” which, next to the Olympic Flag burns eternally in a marble cauldron outside the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, (this fire was lit by laser). 
2. the so-called 'Flame of Peace" that is being lit in front of the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome and is being torch-relayed for the European Games and for the Youth Olympic Festivals.
3. the so-called 'Youth Olympic Flame" which is being lit in Athens, in the Panathenaic Stadium for the Summer and Winter Youth Olympic Games

Due to the lack of the necessary differentiation, these flames usurp the values, symbolism, and connotations of the Olympic Flame and thus posing a great threat to its integrity, uniqueness, and authenticity.

It's time to act now:

The responsible authority of the Olympic Flame, the International Olympic Committee (IOC),

1. should pledge the termination of all ceremonies being held in places other than ancient Olympia for obtaining a flame to be used for athletic meetings and festivals associated with Olympic Institutions, such as the Youth Olympic Games, the Continental Games (European, Asian, Panamerican) or the European Youth Olympic Festivals, because these ceremonies create confusion and harm the uniqueness and authenticity of the globally cherished Olympic symbol.
2. should consider the re–establishment of the eternally burning flame in its historically documented place, on a hearth in the Prytaneion in the archaeological site of Olympia (alternatively in the Olympic Truce Grove)  which will reinforce the authenticity of the Olympic Flame and will be in accordance with historical sources.
3. should finally consider, under the influence of the “metropolis-colony” scheme of antiquity, the authentic Olympic Flame to be transferred and permanently preserved, at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne and at every city of the World that has hosted the Olympic Games, commemorating and celebrating the connection between antiquity and contemporary era, and demonstrating the close relation, the "brotherhood" of the different hosts of the Olympic Spirit.

It should be a "sine qua non" requirement that next to the Olympic Flag in various Olympic events only a flame with the original "Olympic genes“ should burn.
