Keep the Arabic program at Lincoln Park High School

Keep the Arabic program at Lincoln Park High School
The Issue
We are a coalition of parents, teachers, students, alumni, and community members advocating for the continuation of the Arabic program at Lincoln Park High School (LPHS). We are deeply concerned by the decision not to offer incoming freshmen the opportunity to enroll in Arabic for the 2026–2027 school year.
The Arabic program at LPHS has provided students with far more than language instruction. It has created opportunities for cultural understanding, leadership development, and meaningful engagement with the broader global community. Students enrolled in the program have developed strong communication skills, expanded their cultural awareness, and participated in enriching experiences such as the Chicago-based Model Arab League conference.
Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and plays a significant role in international business, diplomacy, education, and global affairs. Offering Arabic at LPHS reflects the diversity of our city and equips students with valuable skills that prepare them for success in an increasingly interconnected world.
Eliminating access to Arabic for incoming students would limit educational opportunities and reduce the diversity of language offerings available at LPHS. Language programs are essential not only for academic growth, but also for fostering empathy, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding within our school community.
We respectfully urge the administration to reconsider this decision and ensure that Arabic remains available as an option for current and future students. Preserving this program demonstrates a commitment to educational equity, multicultural learning, and the long-term success of LPHS students.
Together, we can ensure that future generations of students continue to have the opportunity to engage with the Arabic language and culture in meaningful and transformative ways.
