The Issue

My name is Cari Legere, but I write under the pen name of Charity Lewis. I'm a teen author trying to build her platform. I joined the website Wattpad a few months ago. I was checking my notifications when I saw that a writer I follow had posted that her works were illegally posted on this website, TeenFic.net. I visited the website, entered my username, and discovered, to my horror, that three of my four stories on Wattpad were posted. The rankings are the same. The views are the same. This website is a knock-off of Wattpad. Wattpaders, your work is being illegally stolen.

I'm not the only one who has experienced this. Several of my writer friends on that platform have told me their work is on TeenFic.net. One of them even unpublished her book. Another attempted to search for her stories on this malicious site. She was hacked.

We must get this website permanently shut down. It is a hotbed for viruses and scams--none of which are beneficial. Yet these cyber criminals continue to lure in unsuspecting readers by using published work that is not in the public domain.

If TeenFic.net remains online, countless other indie writers will have their works stolen--even if they say "All Rights Reserved". This cannot happen. Even though fanfiction and original stories aren't registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, they still should not be ripped off and copy-pasted. This is plagiarism.  This cannot be allowed.

This website is a repeat offender. Three years ago, another disgruntled Wattpader created a petition demanding the same thing.   If we all unite our voices, we can stop TeenFic.net for good. If we don't, then our writing loses its worth. I'll have to delete my account. That's not what I want. I'm just a teenager! I can't do anything about it. All I have is a Change.org account. Join me, fellow Wattpaders, and fight this injustice.
