Keep Tasman Drive two lanes each way from Fair Oaks to Lawrence

The Issue

We are the residents who live in the mobile home parks that rely on Tasman Drive for both entering and exiting our homes. Tasman Drive is currently earmarked for reduction from a two-lane commercial corridor down to one lane in each direction to install bike and pedestrian lanes. The only destinations off Tasman are the very infrequent destinations of Levi Stadium and Amtrak (per the BPAC petition).

This change will affect over 1700 homes with 3500+ vehicles in both communities alone. It will also substantially affect the daily lives of those residing and working in the immediate area, creating major backups of cars and buses in the morning and evening commute times. The more egregious result will be the major disruption of emergency services such as fire, ambulance, and park evacuations.

This plan also disrupts the movement of other mobile home park residents (613 homes) and those living in apartments and condominiums on Fair Oaks to Weddell Drive. Since its original layout was adopted, Tasman Drive has served as a crucial transit route. We have all relied on this corridor to maintain our access to Highways 101 and 237.

Therefore, we are standing together to voice our concerns: medical emergencies, evacuations, no right on red, traffic slowing methods, and back-ups. We urge the city council to reconsider their decision regarding Tasman Drive and maintain its status as a four-lane commercial corridor to protect the movement and safety of the residents and businesses.
