Keep Sunday parking free and give Tetbury and all Cotswold Businesses a break!
The Issue
KEEP SUNDAY PARKING FREE AND GIVE TETBURY, AND ALL COTSWOLDS BUSINESSES A BREAK!
OR AT LEAST ONE DAY OFF!
The Lib Dem-run Cotswold District Council plans to charge to park in the Council owned/managed car parks by axing the Free Sunday Parking throughout all the Towns that Cotswold council owned/ managed car parks,
The Tetbury Chamber with support from the public are calling on them to ‘Reconsider and continue to provide parking free of charge Sunday parking not only in Tetbury but across the Cotswolds for Car Parks that are in their purview.’
Please sign this petition, which will be presented to the council.
NO TO Cotswold District Council EXTRA CAR PARKING CHARGES.
Why this petition matters
The introduction of extra car parking charges would further reduce the number of customers, employees and viability of retail businesses.”
These plans will be another blow to Tetbury and The Cotswolds High Street. The Council need to give businesses a break. All these charges will do is punish local businesses by making customers shop elsewhere, force cars to park in all the surrounding residential roads rather than in designated car parks and reduce access for some of the most vulnerable residents
Bad for bussniess
It Will affect the Churches which is paramount for the maintenance of faith and good mental health for people. And remind people that it was traditionally a day of rest, or at least a day off for many!
Introducing charges for using car parks is a decision made at a local level, which remain the responsibilities of Local Authorities. The Government has said that is it is committed to ensuring that all decisions affecting motorists are proportionate and done with the consent of local people so that drivers are able to go about their everyday lives without unnecessary impositions.
This petition will prove that this is not been done by the consent of local people and merely being used as a Cashcow to prop up bad management of council funding, and we urge them to relook at their own internal costs first, we believe this was suggested.
This decision is the thin end of the wedge showing a lack of accountability and concern for the people who elected them. Let us unite over this and show them that we have a voice that matters.
Businesses in Tetbury and the Cotswolds will be doubly disadvantaged as they will be also competing with places that never had car parking charges in the first place. Parking charges have and are killing High Streets. And now we have the council ploughing ahead with plans that seem to take no account of that. IN FACT QUITE THE OPPOSITE!
Please sign the petition so we can pressure Cotswold District Council to rethink this.
