Homework was invented by Roberto Nevilis in 1905 as punishment for students who misbehaved or underperformed in class. Now, students almost everywhere have it every day. Even in the summer! Some people believe that homework can help with academics and yes, in moderated amounts it can. However, when you give a student nonstop homework it burns them out, thus making them underperform in school. There is a reason that apps like Brainly exist. Now, let's take a second to talk about Finland. In Finland, there is almost no homework and much longer breaks. The graduation rate in Finland is over 99%, compare that to the US's graduation rate of 86%. My point is that, as beneficial as homework can be, it can also be extremely detrimental, leading to mental breakdowns, depression, and in some cases, suicide.
