Keep study hall at Learwood Middle School

Keep study hall at Learwood Middle School
The Issue
Hi I am Emma Remy a sixth grader at Troy
As I prepare to start my journey at Learwood Middle School in Avon Lake next year, I am deeply concerned about the recent announcement that study hall will no longer be offered. This decision profoundly impacts not only my academic schedule but also the well-being and academic success of all future students who, like me, rely heavily on this vital resource.
Participating in after-school activities is an integral part of our educational experience, providing us with avenues for personal growth and the opportunity to develop various skills. However, these activities also demand significant time and energy, often leaving little room to complete homework or engage in necessary study time at home. Study hall provides us with dedicated time during the school day to focus on our academic responsibilities, ensuring that we do not fall behind in our studies.
There is considerable research supporting the importance of study time within school hours. According to the National Education Association, students who have designated time within their school schedule to study and complete assignments are more likely to achieve higher academic performance. This is particularly true for middle school students, who are at a pivotal stage in their academic journey, balancing increasingly demanding coursework and extracurricular activities.
The removal of study hall does not only mean a loss of study time, but it may also lead to increased stress and anxiety among students who struggle to manage their time effectively. This can subsequently impact not only our academic success but also our mental health and overall well-being.
We urge the Avon Lake City Schools administration to reconsider this decision and retain study hall at Learwood Middle School. This change will ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically, participate in extracurricular activities, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Please sign this petition to show your support for the continuation of study hall, a crucial element for student success and development at Learwood Middle School. Let's work together to advocate for a balanced educational environment that prioritizes the needs and success of all students. Thank you for supporting this important cause.
