Keep Strictly Come Dancing On The Air

Keep Strictly Come Dancing On The Air
The Issue
Since being mocked and teased by ableist classmates in the early Noughties, Strictly has provided a joyful escapism. This expanded when It Takes Two was launched a few years later. Each school day, I had something to look forward too, no matter how stressful the day had been. Akin to escaping the rain and relaxing in a hot bath.
Many other people can relate.
Over the years, it has brought joy, fun and entertainment to our lives, and so other nations saw its success and decided to bring it to their people. Inspiring countless spin-offs such as Dancing With the Stars in the US. Many children who watched it around the time it launched, were inspired by what they saw and now they compete on it.
In its twenty years, the show has had many ups and downs: winning numerous awards, including several NTAs, and witnessing the break-ups of numerous celebrity marriages. It has been rocked a few times in the past due to several scandals, but it has always managed to dust itself off and get back on that horse.
But now, worrying news reported in the Daily Mail, and other UK publications, are reporting that its latest scandal could prove fatal, providing the final nail in its sparkly coffin. If this were to be true, and this year's show, it's 20th, be its final, many fans of the beloved, multi-award winning, show will be left bereft. The show has had a tremendous impact on our lives: bringing couples together, and cultivating many careers of its professional dancers. By helping them do what they love most: teach dancing and spread its joy, not only to their pupils but to millions nationwide and around the world.
The nation would be a far quieter and more boring place were Strictly to cease broadcasting. The show has had a profound impact on our culture - the recognition of British Sign Language as an official language of Great Britain was sparked due to this show. Furthermore, its drive towards inclusivity saw its first same-sex couples, in addition to disabled pairings (amputees, dwarfs, deaf, etc). Now, dance studios across the country have seen a rise in people taking ballroom dance lessons and not being embarrassed when partnered in a same-sex couple, or people prefer a same-sex pairing. If Strictly were to cease, what other advancements would we miss out on?
Save Strictly!
