Keep Scott Alive!!!

Keep Scott Alive!!!
The Issue
Help us save Scott from being executed!!!
Scott, a young male born into the Smitswinkel, Cape Town troop. More than likely the son of iconic ex-Alpha of Smits - “Fingers” (who is now a senior) - noticeable by his soft demeanour, upturned mouth which makes him look like he is always smiling and his soppy eyes. Scott came of age towards the end of 2021 and was battling to navigate through all the baboon corridors that have become so tightly squeezed with human inhabitants, their animals, their gardens full of tantalising treats, their weapons and lack of will to co-exist until he finds his way.
He has twice been trapped and released in the Da Gama troop. Twice he immediately sets off home. That alone is justification to leave him in his troop. We were told the second relocation was his only chance. If he dares not meet our human standards he will be euthanised, killed. There is a real chance this this docile baboon’s life will be ended prematurely. The solution is to let him be Scott . Since late last year he spends his days on the outskirts of his natal troop looking in with longing(this is obvious). Unfortunately he has come of age abs current alpha Van Damme who was one of the few lucky naturally dispersing males(waterfall) does not want to compete with another young adult male and keeps Scott in the periphery . He needs to be left alone and people need to start making the time to educate themselves about thier primate neighbours…. It’s long overdue.
Make the compromise- close up when they’re around, get an electric fence if you really don’t want them near your home but make a plan to be a better human to our animals. You may find them irritating but they are our irritating animals.
The solution cannot continue to be the killing of baboons is a lazy one which does not work. Many baboons have been killed by authorities and it has never solved the problem. #HandsOffScott. Do not kill Scott. The Mayor of Cape Town, University of Cape Town scientists and NCC Environmental Services have the power to find modern solutions that does not involve killing.
