HALT DISC GOLF COURSE CONSTRUCTION AT ROBY PARK NASHUA, NH

The Issue

Immediately stop the construction of a Disc Golf Course on the trails at Roby Park in Nashua due to:

  • Safety risks to other non-golfers and the abutters who may be using the wooded trails to walk dogs or just walk.  This includes head and eye injuries, even concussions. Even the pros have thrown bad shots and injured others. Novices will be worse for sure.  Some shots at 70 mph might even go through a passing car.  One of the baskets isn't that far from East Dunstable.  That's a lawsuit in the making. The "use at your own risk" signage does not absolve the City of it's duty to provide a safe space for ALL USERS of the park and not just those that are throwing discs that can maim or even kill.
  • Destruction of a diverse wildlife habitat-one of the last strongholds in the City
  • Destruction of wetlands
  • Destruction of almost 125 trees and many are still viable, but even the dead ones provide habitat for wildlife
  • Parking safety issues which were previously brought up to Skip Cleaver Alderman and Mayor Donchess. Nothing was done. A traffic light is needed at St. James Place-only complex that doesn't have one. Many accidents at the intersection-especially dangerous when cars are parked on the side of the road. Also detrimental to fire engines leaving the station, potential to cause loss of life it the engines can't navigate between cars parked on both sides of Spit Brook and cars in both travel lanes and puts bikers at risk as well.
  • Changing the view forever for the abutters, reducing the sound barrier provided by the trees
  • Having to take even more trees to expand parking (which can NOT be near the grassy knoll closest to Oak Hill because it will affect the wetlands).
  • Ensure taxpayer dollars are not going to be use for this special interest group project
  • Abutters were not notified or surveyed
  • A site plan was not posted
