Keep Rec Center Pool Open during Spring Break

The Issue

Many local families in Teton County rely on the Rec Center, including the Aquatics Center and Climbing Gym, for entertainment, especially during spring breaks when outdoor options are limited. However, the Recreation Center management schedules necessary maintenance and repairs during this time, leading to facility closures that disrupt families needing access to the pool and other facilities when other recreational opportunities are scarce (unpredictable weather, playgrounds thawing with closed restrooms, muddy trails, icy lakes,…)

We understand the importance of maintaining these facilities and are not against essential repairs. Instead, we urge the management and board to schedule maintenance outside of spring break. With Teton County School District #1 serving approximately 2,900 children and around 1,000 children under 5 living in the area, it’s estimated that about 2,000 children and their families are affected by the current scheduling, highlighting the significant impact on our community.

We appeal to Teton County’s Recreation Center authorities to reconsider their maintenance schedule to ensure these facilities remain accessible during spring break when outdoor alternatives are unavailable. Your support by signing this petition can make a difference in the lives of Teton County’s families and help make spring break meaningful for everyone in our community. Thank you.
