Keep Protections in Place for Sea Turtles Off the US West Coast!

The Issue

Longlines have been banned in the US West Coast Exclusive Econommic Zone--the part of the ocean from 3 to 200 miles off our coast--for the last 30 years.  Now, however, the National Marine Fisheries Service is poised to roll back  this vital conservation measure, a protection that has saved sea turtles from capture and death.
Critically endangered leatherback sea turtles, Pacific loggerheads, and other marine species which swim off our coast are at risk!  Help us protect them NOW!

Bob PackerPetition StarterI was born in Barbados which is a small island in the caribbean. This is where I spent endless hours growing up around the beach. My days were spent mostly Surfing, but nearly every day revolved around the ocean. When I was younger I did not pay much attention to the changes taking place before my eyes that are so apparent today. I have witnessed entire reefs along stretches of beach simply die and disappear over the years. Along with the reefs went the fish and sea life that was so plentiful. I am convinced that Global Warming is the cause and we need to do something about it NOW before it's too late. Our future generations need us to step up and make significant changes all over the world otherwise they will be the one's to loose out.
