The Issue

Why this matters:
We need your voice to protect our neighborhood's peace, safety, and sleep.

A new business at 491 Potrero Avenue is attempting to secure a Place of Entertainment (POE) permit from the San Francisco Entertainment Commission. If approved, this permit would legally allow them to operate as a high-volume, primary-use entertainment venue—essentially a nightclub or concert hall—with indoor live performances blaring until 2:00 AM.

To be clear: We are not trying to shut this business down. They are currently allowed to hold neighborhood-friendly activities like sports viewing, trivia nights, mariachi, and acoustic music. We love and support that!

What we cannot accept is a massive shift to a late-night party venue operating in a residential area. 491 Potrero sits directly in the middle of:

A Vibrant Residential Neighborhood: The property backs up directly to residential homes of working families, children, and elderly residents who deserve quiet nights. This includes Mariposa Gardens, a low income housing development designed for parents and children directly across the street from 491 Potrero.

The Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP): A vital sanctuary supporting vulnerable pregnant women and new families which is building new housing on-site for it’s program participants.

Given the past operational history of the management's leadership, we are deeply concerned that this POE permit will be used to bring loud, disruptive, and continuous late-night activity to our doorsteps under a thin veneer of compliance.

Our Demand:
We, the undersigned residents, neighbors, and allies of Potrero Hill, call upon the San Francisco Entertainment Commission to:

DENY the application for a Place of Entertainment (POE) permit at 491 Potrero Avenue.

ENFORCE strict compliance and oversight to protect our community from sleep deprivation, traffic congestion, and noise pollution.

Sign this petition to tell the Entertainment Commission: Protect our neighborhood, our hospitals, and our homes. Keep 491 Potrero neighborhood-friendly!

What else you can do to help:

  • Share this petition with neighbors!
  • Come to the Entertainment Commission Hearing on June 16th at 5:30 PM
