Thank you for reading and signing. This country is founded on policing Black, Brown and Indigenous bodies rather than providing care, services and general humanity. Money is constantly funneled into policing and using incarceration as a pathetic means of "social control." Hurt people hurt people. When people are given what they need: food, shelter, love, mental health care, health care, then, humans will thrive. 

This week, while the Texas and Florida Governors think it's a sport to send migrant families to northern states, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, a former police officer and staunch advocate for law and order and defunding education and all social services, is giving more money to police. He is setting up his new tent encampments for migrants to be surrounded by police. Police are already severely abusing these new and profoundly vulnerable migrants. The tents that are being set up are massive congregate shelters(many people, 100's) in massive tents. Covid numbers are rising and no human should be subject to living in a tent next to a hundred other people. But that is not why I am writing today. 

I am asking you to please tell the Mayor Adams and Marjorie Velazquez, D-Bronx that using money for policing migrants is dangerous (police will antagonize and militarize migrants, call ICE and then get families separated and deported after they have traveled for brutal months in flip flops to get here). Rather than spend millions for more dangerous police officers, how about we pay social workers and other organizations to assist these humans to get permanent housing, to get medical care, to get their documents back that were taken from them at the border. Social service organizations that can provide long term health care, mental health care, child care, clothing, finding long term employment. None of this will cost more money than police. 

I beg of you to sign this petition telling Mayor Eric Adams and Marjorie Velazquez, D-Bronx that migrants need assistance, not policing!
