The Issue

This is personal to me because, as seniors, this is our last in-season game. We’re all incredibly excited because it's not just any game – it's on Halloween! The boys on the football team chose to have their senior night on Halloween for a reason. It promises to be a memorable evening, mixing the excitement of our final high school game with the spookiness of Halloween night in Thurmont, MD.

Changing the date would break the tradition and the spirit that we've built up over our high school careers. It's a special moment for us seniors, a chance to celebrate not just our love for football but also our cherished school memories and friendships. Halloween senior night combines the community's festive spirit with school pride, allowing everyone to come together in a unique celebration.

Friday night games are a staple in our community, offering families, students, and alumni a gathering place. Transforming Halloween into senior night adds a layer of tradition and uniqueness that can't be duplicated on another night. It's not just another game; it’s a beacon of community bonding, highlighting our achievements and memories.

There are valid concerns such as safety and logistics, but with the right planning and community support, these can be addressed. Ensuring enough security presence and organizing traffic efficiently will alleviate safety concerns. Additionally, centering activities around the game will ensure that it doesn't disrupt Halloween traditions but rather complements them.

Please help us keep our final senior night game as it was envisioned and preserve this unique celebration of sport, tradition, and community in Thurmont. Your support can make this a reality. Sign the petition to keep our senior night football game on Halloween!
