Keep our school crossing patrols and keep our children safe

The Issue

North Ayrshire Council and the majority of our local councillors have voted to cut the school crossing patrols as part of the NAC budget cuts from April.

We need your support in signing this petition if we have any hope of getting them to reverse their decision.

The crossing patrols not only provide a vital service, ensuring that children can get to and from school safely but the patrollers are part of our school community.

Many parents rely on them, and their removal will force young children to navigate busy roads on their own, putting them at serious risk. I cannot understand how such a decision could be made when the safety of our children should be a top priority.

Parking in itself is a danger and a huge issue at the school with cars parking in illegal and irresponsible places (such as on the roundabout, dropping children off on the keep clear zig zags and in the bus bay)

If the crossing patrols are removed our school children and their families will not have a safe route to walk to and from school in addition to avoiding illegally and irresponsibly parked cars.

It seems no alternative measures are being put in place to ensure pedestrian safety.

We urge North Ayrshire Council and the councillors to reconsider this cut and to find a way to maintain crossing patrols for the well-being of our community. The potential consequences of this decision are too severe to ignore.
