Keep Our National Parks Open

Petition to Secretary Doug Burgum: Keep Our National Parks Open and Staffed
Dear Secretary Burgum,
We, the undersigned, respectfully urge you to ensure that America’s national parks remain open and fully staffed this October.
October is one of the busiest and most beloved times to visit our national parks. The changing seasons draw millions of visitors to experience fall colors, cooler weather, and unique wildlife activity. For many Americans, these trips have been planned months in advance, with significant investments in travel, lodging, and permits. Closing or understaffing the parks during this critical time would not only disrupt cherished family traditions and long-planned trips but also inflict real economic harm on gateway communities that rely on park-related tourism. Understaffing the parks can also lead to overflowing trash, habitat damage, vandalism, and risks to visitor safety. Essential park staff should be "excepted" from being furloughed or dismissed so our precious parks can safely remain open.
National parks are more than just natural wonders — they are shared spaces that belong to all of us. They provide opportunities for recreation, education, and connection with our nation’s history and landscapes. Keeping them open and staffed in October ensures that visitors can enjoy safe, memorable experiences while supporting local businesses and economies.
We ask that you act decisively to protect both the accessibility and safety of our parks. Please commit to keeping our national parks open, welcoming, and staffed during October and beyond.
Sincerely,
