The issue

Ophir is more than just a friend to us; he's family. Over the past few years, we've shared countless moments of laughter, tears, and growth. He's been there for us in times of need, and we've built strong bonds that transcend the typical friendship. We can't imagine our community or our everyday lives without him, and we know he feels the same way.

Ophir's parents have decided to move him back to Israel, but he wants to stay here, where he has found a supportive group of friends and a place where he truly belongs. Taking him away from this environment could disrupt his emotional and social development, and we fear it might feel like losing a part of our family.

Statistically, moving during formative years can have adverse effects on children and adolescents. According to a study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics, children who move frequently can experience emotional distress, which can impact their well-being and academic performance. Ophir is at a critical stage in his life, and staying in a stable and familiar environment is crucial for his continued growth.

We understand that his parents have reasons for wanting to move, but we believe there is a compromise that can be reached to keep Ophir with us, at least through the remainder of his schooling. We propose exploring options such as guardianship or hosting arrangements that could allow Ophir to remain in his current environment while maintaining close ties with his family.

Please join us in urging his parents to consider this option for Ophir's future and the community that loves him dearly. Sign this petition to keep Ophir with us and support his right to choose his home during these important years.
