Keep One Cap and Gown Graduation Ceremony
Keep One Cap and Gown Graduation Ceremony
The Issue
Concerns have been raised about the decision to split the Cap & Gown Ceremony, leaving many students and families distressed. For some students, this will be their only graduation ceremony. They will not pursue further education, making this event their sole opportunity to celebrate their academic journey. As children who experienced the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, they missed out on inclusive graduation ceremonies in junior high, making this high school graduation even more critical.
Parents and guardians wish to create a memorable send-off for their children. A split Cap & Gown ceremony not only deprives students of a unified celebration but also robs parents of the chance to congratulate other families and children they’ve seen grow up. It’s a communal experience, reflecting a shared journey from the early years to adolescence and the brink of adulthood.
Gonzaga High School’s efforts from the previous year serve as a model of inclusivity. By collaborating with parents, guardians, and students, they successfully organized a set of inclusive events. The children of Holy Heart of Mary deserve nothing less. Therefore, it’s crucial to meet with representatives of the Parent/Guardian group and the graduating class to develop a graduation ceremony that honors all graduates and families wishing to participate. This initiative should not be an additional burden on a few individuals; rather, it should be a collective effort.
Every voice matters, every signature counts. Join us in urging HHM to keep ONE cap and gown graduation ceremony, creating lasting memories for the Class of 2025 - all together.
