Petition updateKeep Musk Out Of Music CityTake Action this week on Musk Tunnel
Rep. Aftyn BehnNashville, TN, United States

Hello everyone, providing an update from Senator Charlane Oliver regarding the Musk tunnel. See below for two ways to plug in this week.

-----

Nashville, we need to talk. And we need to move quickly.

The Boring Company — yes, Elon Musk’s tunnel company — is trying to lock in a $34 million, 40-year agreement at our airport with very little public accountability. And they’re hoping this slides through quietly.

We cannot let that happen.

I represent the 19th Senate District, and part of my district covers the BNA airport and is impacted by the proposed tunnel route along Murfreesboro Pike. I’ve been vocal about my concerns for this project since I first learned about it last July.

First: Wednesday, February 18 at 1:00pm — the Airport Authority Board is meeting at BNA to approve this 40-year agreement. Public comment sign-up is closed, but I will be there speaking in opposition — and your presence matters. When the room is full, power listens.

Second: Thursday, February 19, at 4:30pm — there’s a special Metro Council Transportation & Infrastructure Committee meeting at the Metro Courthouse. The Boring Company will be presenting and taking questions. Let’s be clear: this meeting is only happening because Councilwoman Delishia Porterfield filed a resolution opposing this project. Community pressure works. The public can sign up to speak — and I encourage you to do so.

Here’s what’s at stake: transparency. Environmental impact. Public tax dollars. Long-term infrastructure and public transit decisions that should reflect the will of the people — not the profit motives of billionaires.

We deserve public transit solutions that are equitable, sustainable, and accountable. Not flashy experiments negotiated behind closed doors.

Councilwoman At-Large Porterfield is bringing a local resolution to oppose the project. It will be voted on Tuesday, March 3rd at Metro Council meeting. Call your council member. Tell them to vote YES.

And I’ve filed Senate Joint Resolution 684 at the state level. It will go before the Senate Transportation Committee in March. Contact those members and urge them to support SJR684.

This is about democratic governance. This is about whether Nashville residents get a say in projects that impact our future for the next 40 years.

If you care about transparency, fiscal responsibility, community voice, and people-centered transit, now is the time to speak up and show up.

Let’s make it clear: Nashville is not for sale.
