Keep Ms. Avrit at Kraemer Middle School!

Keep Ms. Avrit at Kraemer Middle School!
The Issue
In just her first year at Kraemer Middle School, Ms. Avrit has already become one of the most loved teachers on campus. She teaches 7th and 8th grade math in a way that actually makes sense, even for students who have had a hard time with math in the past. But she doesn’t just teach math- she teaches students how to believe in themselves, try again, take risks, and not be afraid to make mistakes.
So many students say they’ve gone from hating math to liking it because of her. Some say it became their favorite subject. Others say her class was the one place they felt safe and supported. She made class fun, calm, and welcoming. She even played music, helped us laugh, and still kept us learning at the same time. That kind of teacher is rare.
But Ms. Avrit didn’t just help students in the classroom. She also coached intramural sports like volleyball and flag football, bringing students together and creating fun and healthy competition. She ran PRIDE sessions where students could come get help, collaborate, or just be in a supportive space. Even students who weren’t in her class visit her during PRIDE because of how kind and understanding she is.
Now, because of a district policy that follows seniority, Ms. Avrit won’t be coming back next year. Another teacher is being transferred back to Kraemer, and because Ms. Avrit is the newest, she’s the one who has to leave, even though she’s doing an amazing job and has made a huge difference. This isn’t about her performance. It’s not about student feedback or staff opinions. It’s just about how long she’s been here. That doesn’t feel right.
Many of our math classes already have 36 to 38 students in them, which is way too high. Students don’t get as much help, it’s harder to ask questions, and it makes learning more stressful. Losing Ms. Avrit could make that worse. If we keep her, it would help lower class sizes and give students more attention and support. It would also keep a teacher who truly makes school better every day.
If you ask her students, her coworkers, or anyone who knows her, they’ll all tell you the same thing: Ms. Avrit makes a real impact. The comments on this petition prove it too. Students wrote from the heart about how Ms. Avrit helped them grow, made them feel welcome, and made learning fun. Some said they looked forward to her class every day. Others shared how much they’ll miss her or how they wish she could be their teacher forever. That kind of response doesn’t happen unless a teacher truly matters.
We’re asking school and district leaders to look at everything- not just the rules, but the people who make Kraemer what it is. Ms. Avrit should stay. She has already made Kraemer better in just one year, and we know she’ll keep making a difference if she gets the chance.
