The issue

McDonald’s does not belong in our community. Manjimup is an agrifood hub that boosts local farmers, growers and food businesses. The opening of a multinational cooperation like McDonald’s in this precinct goes against the heart of our area. The establishment of a McDonald's here could negatively impact local businesses. Small, family-owned eateries that serve and reflect our community's unique culinary culture struggle against the financial might of these global chains. As residents who cherish the diversity and vibrancy of our local business ecosystem, we believe it is crucial to support our neighbourhood entrepreneurs.

Fast food chains such as McDonald's have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of our community. The establishment of a drive-through fast-food outlet in this area would negatively impact the quality of the existing food environment. Fast food outlets contribute to poor diets and having overweight or obesity, which are linked to various health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke and some types of cancers. We need to protect the health of Manjimup residents.

A new McDonald's could significantly alter the character of our area. Introducing fast-food outlets into neighbourhoods can lead to increased litter, noise pollution, and even a rise in traffic congestion—problems that not only degrade the quality of life but also deter potential new residents.

Moreover, the proposed location sits in the heart of our community, close to our schools, shops, and homes. We need to protect our kids from the influence and impact this outlet would have on their diets and habits, passing by the McDonald’s every day on their way to school.

We urge our local leaders and planning authorities to carefully consider the long-term implications before approving this plan. Instead of a McDonald's, let’s encourage and support initiatives that bring sustainable and healthy food options to our area, those that align with community values and health priorities.

Sign this petition to protect the essence of our community and advocate for a healthier, more sustainable living environment.
