Keep lithium battery storage facilities away from Brandon’s residential areas

Keep lithium battery storage facilities away from Brandon’s residential areas
The Issue
I don’t think anyone deserves to have to live near something that poses significant threat to their health. Lithium battery storage facilities are an incredible fire hazard and the fumes are deadly.
Many of us in Brandon are deeply concerned about the placement of lithium battery storage facilities close to our residential areas. These facilities, while essential for modern energy solutions, also pose significant risks if they are not located thoughtfully. The potential for fires in these facilities is not just an alarming prospect; it's a life-threatening hazard. According to reports from the National Fire Protection Association, fires in energy storage installations involving lithium-ion batteries are particularly difficult to control due to the intense heat and toxic fumes they emit.
Having such a facility near residential neighborhoods like ours means possibly exposing families, children, seniors, and pets to devastating fires and toxic chemical releases. Living in constant fear of hazardous events is not an option, nor should it be a reality for anyone in Brandon.
Our goal is not to stop the progress of clean energy but to ensure that it is implemented in a way that prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of our community. Relocating these facilities away from densely populated areas is a responsible step towards this.
We propose that the local government conduct a thorough review and reassessment of facility placement regulations. A clear buffer zone must be established, well away from residential spaces, ensuring that any new or existing facilities adhere to these safety standards.
Let us safeguard the community of Brandon while promoting sustainable energy solutions. Please support this initiative by signing our petition. Together, we can make a difference in ensuring a safer living environment for everyone.
