We, the undersigned parents, residents, taxpayers, alumni, educators, business owners, and community members, respectfully urge the Leake County School District Board of Education to halt the proposed closure of Leake County High School.

Our community school has long been a valuable asset, serving generations of families and enriching the lives of countless students. For many, it is more than just a place of learning; it is a safe haven, a nurturing environment that supports students both academically and emotionally.

Closure of this school threatens to rip apart the fabric of our close-knit community, leaving a lasting void. Additionally, it would disrupt students’ education, increase transportation burdens, weaken community stability, eliminate local jobs, and harm the local economy.

We are deeply concerned that this decision may proceed without sufficient transparency, meaningful public engagement, and full evaluation of long-term impacts.

By signing this petition, we call on the Board to:

• Pause any final decision on closure.

• Release all supporting financial, enrollment, transportation, and facility data.

• Formally address the school bond funds issued for the construction of additional classrooms and facilities at South Leake/Leake County that were approved but never completed, including a full public accounting, explanation of non-performance, and corrective action if contractual obligations were not fulfilled.

• Conduct public hearings accessible to parents, alumni, and residents after all relevant data has been fully disclosed and evaluated by the community and/or retained attorneys.

• Evaluate reasonable and viable alternatives to closure.

• Protect students, families, and community investment.
