Keep LCSS Students at LCSS

The Issue

London Central Secondary School's diverse community is under threat. On January 10, 2023, there was a Planning and Priorities Advisory Committee Meeting in which two scenarios in an initial attendance area review report were listed; only one of which keeps London Central SS status quo, meaning that it will continue to accept students from out of boundary through a random selection process up to a capacity of approximately 1,050 students, being the functional capacity of the school. The other scenario would send approximately 75% of London Central students back to their feeder schools in September 2024.

This drastic change would be of great detriment to the London Central SS community. The diverse community of London Central SS is one which students look forward to seeing every day, and the diversity that the school provides is one of the reasons it excels in all departments, from music to foreign languages to mathematics. By sending students back to their feeder schools, it would strip London Central of this blessing of diversity, ruin established student routines, and move to dismantle London Central's honour as London's most prestigious secondary school.

However, we must act soon. The timeline of this change appears to be very swift, culminating with the decision of the Board of Trustees by June of this year. For this reason, we must tell the trustees that we want scenario 1. The scenario that keeps London Central the distinguished and diverse school that it is.
