The Issue

When I was just five years old, my world was shattered when I was molested by Kevin Hughes. Recently, I was devastated to learn that Siskiyou County had removed my name from his criminal record as of 2022. This feels like a grave injustice to me and others who have faced similar trauma at his hands.

On May 1st, Kevin Hughes turned himself in to the authorities after reports surfaced that he molested three additional children. This only further solidifies what I already know from personal experience: Kevin Hughes poses a serious threat to the safety of children in our community and must remain behind bars.

There is a very real concern for the safety and welfare of the residents of Mount Shasta, CA, should Kevin Hughes be released on bail. Allowing him back into the community would put more innocent lives at risk and would undermine justice for the survivors who have bravely come forward.

Statistics reveal that the reoffending rate for sexual predators, especially those preying on children, is alarmingly high. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, recidivism rates for sexual offenders are high, making it crucial for repeat offenders like Hughes to remain incarcerated until trial and beyond.

The judicial system must prioritize the protection of vulnerable children over the convenience of the accused. Keeping Kevin Hughes in custody is a necessary step to safeguarding our community and ensuring that no more children endure the trauma of molestation.

Please join me in urging the judicial authorities in Siskiyou County to deny bail for Kevin Hughes. Your support is crucial in making a stand for the safety and rights of our children. Sign this petition to ensure that justice prevails and that Kevin Hughes remains in custody.
