Keep Kalkaska Clean and Quit. Say No To AI Data Centers.

Keep Kalkaska Clean and Quit. Say No To AI Data Centers.
The Issue
The small town of Kalkaska, located in the picturesque region of Northern Michigan, is facing an environmental threat from incoming ai data centers. These facilities, required to power the digital world, are becoming notorious for their massive energy consumption and contribution to pollution and foreign security threats. AI Data Centers have massive carbon emissions and they use a tremendous amounts of water and natural gas. Yes people will be employed in the Construction phase but these places when built do not employ large amounts of people. These are just more Billion dollar corporations sucking off the grid while they promise communities the world but actually give less and have negative impacts in return.
Data centers are among the most energy-intensive facilities in the world. A large data center can demand upwards of 100+ megawatts of power, comparable to the needs of a small city. These requirements will drain our local power supplies and push us more towards non-renewable energy sources. Moreover, data centers often rely heavily on water for cooling their systems, further straining our precious natural resources. They will say they have a closed loop system but majority of the water supply will be drilled or brought in. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers accounted for about 2% of total U.S. electricity use in 2020, which translates to significant environmental impact. These Data Centers are LOUD and have negative impacts on all wildlife and natural resources.
The influx of such facilities threatens to pollute our air, harm local ecosystems, and deplete resources in Kalkaska. Enjoy your vapor plume vs beautiful blue sky's. Data shows property value decreases and energy costs increase everywhere Data Centers are built. Data Centers also sell private information to 3rd Parties including foreign countries. Data Centers are also considered soft targets for domestic and international terrorism. This is something our community must fight against. Yes Kalkaska is a space to grow. Not for Billion dollar Corporations that pretend to care about environmental impacts while hiding underneath their NDA'S. Don't believe me? Google: NDA DATA CENTERS
Preserving our town's environmental integrity must be our priority. We propose that the local government take our petition seriously as we do not want this Data Center built here. After these Data Centers are built they do not offer any transparency(NDA's) and only care about their Billion dollar investors vs environmental impacts.
By taking action now, we can protect Kalkaska's air, water, and land for future generations and maintain the quality of life that our residents cherish. Join us in urging our local leaders to impose this moratorium and develop a better plan to accommodate technology responsibly.
Please sign this petition to advocate for a cleaner, healthier Kalkaska – your support is essential.
